UbiComp has been an interest of mine for years now as well Mike. As much as I like the idea of ambient devices, I never really found an app for one. For all the hype around the Chumby, I just don't quite see the point. Even when I had my scrolling LED sign hooked up to my desktop, it lacked truly useful purpose.

I've been thinking about trying to play with ARToolKit in my copious free time, but haven't gotten further than downloading it. I haven't even gotten a demo to build and run. If you ever got something working, or wanted to try, let me know.
One use for a "scrolling marquee" might be to have a "whole house pager" or "whole-house / whole-room SMS recipient"
